Public Reproof

an open letter to my virtual congregation.. last night i opened a bottle of chardonnay with dinner.

within a short time the county had another bottle to recycle and i had a muddled brain.

i know better than to drink and drive, but i hadn't learned not to drink and surf.. i presently don't have the time to go back and read any posts i made, and interestingly enough, i can't quite recall what i wrote.. to any of you that i may have offended, angered or bored (most likely bored), i heartily apologize.. if i had a headache, i would refuse to take an aspirin.

I intended it to be taken with tongue in cheek.
I think I mentioned that I'd never posted before joining in here. I didn't stand in the shadows either reading for a while. I just jumped right in. Or (dusting myself off), jumped in and fell flat on my face. So this is kinda new to me. When I woke up this morning I remember thinking, "Wow, that wasn't a real good idea." Not rememering what or where I posted, or if I had made a fool out myself I decided to make that post and remove all doubt (Yea, he really is a fool!)
Alcohol really dosen't make me any odder. Just a different kind of odd.

i have developed a deep love of celtic music.

i listen to clannad, enya, loreena mckennitt, natalie mcmaster, and capercaillie.. i have also discovered 'celtic rock' when i went to the scottish festival in pleasanton ca last year.

seven nations was playing modern rock music with fiddles and bagpipes.

It's really not that big of a deal to me either. I, umm, had a little too much to drink when I was posting last night. I am a history buff though, so I've read a lot. The Osage were an extremely warlike tribe. Kinda wrecks the groovy image that the New Agers conjure up. The Spanish and then the American's didn't want to fight them, so they treated them pretty decently. They signed a treaty which allowed them to keep the best of their traditional lands as their "reservation". Most of it was taken back over the years but they never moved. The reservation is in NE Oklahoma. Just so happens there was a lot oil on that land. For quite a few years they were the wealthiest tribe in the US. I guess being a badass isn't always bad.
If your kids like to read, a good book is "The Imperial Osages, Spanish-Indian Diplomacy in the Mississippi Valley" by Din and Nasitir. Dry, but a lot of information.
Love that quote by John Wayne! Reminds me of what Ron Regan said when he was Gov. Some people were complaining about the tens of thousands of acres of old growth redwoods that were being clearcut, his response was "Once you've seen one tree you've seen 'em all". How inciteful.

was really suprise to find out how some of jw's feel.

some have, like the single mom, have such a negative experience with them.

She did have flaws, but being JW wasn't one of them. That was my flaw.
When I went back to the org. for the 2nd time, I really wanted to stick it out. So I ignored her and jumped back into the jdub lifestyle with both feet.
A year and a half later I couldn't ignore the nagging doubts I was having any longer. Never once did I talk to an interested one at a door. I used to watch a lot of brothers start arguements with the householder or try to at least, sometimes they wouldn't bite. How embarassing! A lot of energy is being expended on a seemingly futile endeavor. All the growth I saw were the kids getting baptized.
The other thing I wondered about when I lived in Jamaica was the condition of the Branch office in Kingston. It was clean, but it really needed a paint job. The metal grates were rusting and the paint was washing off of the walls. Why did't they ever show a picture of that in the publications?
Ok enough of this. I have a lot of questions and not many answers.

I've been listening to mostly Blues and Classical music lately, but I'd love to see some live Celt stuff. Let me know if you find anything. I think the Scottish festivals are on hold until Spring.

I don't know either of those guys. I never got to know too many witnesses in this area.
If you can pick up KXPR 90.9 (Sac, the bay area has an equiv. but I don't know the freq.), Fionna Richie has a great show on Sat nites at 9 o'clock pm. She usually focuses on one type (reels, ballads stc.) of music and does interviews. Good background music.

You mentioned uillean pipes. I'd listen to a bad song if it had uillean pipes in it.

A couple of good "folksy" artists; Paul Brady (I really like "the island"), Christy Moore and Luka Bloom.
I never seriously listened to "Danny Boy" until I heard the Chieftains and Diana Krall do it. I love their rendition.

I have little to offer. I have doubts regarding Jehovah's spirit and the WTBTS. I am "inactive". I have not affiliated myself with any other "christian" org. I can't conceive of this ever occuring. I was raised a Catholic and trained in some of their better schools. I left because of their refusal to accept the bible as the word of God. I studied many other religions. Jdubs have always been the closest thing to the "truth" that I could find. If you feel that you need a little "shelter from the storm", give me a holler. I'm just east of Sac. [email protected]

Hi Snowball,
You posted a thought provoking question for me. My siblings and I were raised to think that we were native americans. Osage indian specifically. After my dad passed away, my mother's mother was finally heard. We were not only Osage, but primarily Celt. Byrne, Burke, Connor, Murphy, Tindell were our ancestors. I felt cheated. I love history. The typical dry historical research is always more interesting when there is a perceived connection. The easy out for me was to "discover" Celtic music.
Celtic music is now the rage. Most people, though, never have the opportunity to hear the "old songs" which IMHO opinion are the best. You are in an area in which this music is thriving. As you explore I suggest you seek out those who try to replicate the works of O'Carolan, the "master of the harp". You can also listen to cutting edge celt music on radio. NPR and KVMR have excellent celt music specials. These stations are available via web radio. Enjoy!

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Winnie-the-Pooh. Alfred E. Neuman (what me worry?) and the ageless Dr. Suess (I do not like green eggs and ham!) reside there as well. IMHO you can plagiarize Milne to your heart's content. But, please don't abandon what you excel at. I have grown quite fond of your and Reds verbal sparring. Stick with what you know.
